In The Eye Of The Storm

in internet marketing, product launches

Jeff here, reporting from the eye of the hurricane… or at least that’s what my office feels like right now.

I’m in the midst of the launch of my Product Launch Formula 3.0 coaching program. The launch is going great – but when you’re in the middle of one of these epic launches… well, things get a bit crazy at times.

Of course, I’m not the ONLY one in the middle of a launch – Apple’s rolling out their iPhone 4 – and well, they crashed their server. Or more accurately, their network.

Take a look at what happened when a friend of mine tried to pre-order an iPhone:

Yes, that’s the Apple store blowing up.

And yes…

That’s definitely a server crash. Oops!

Of course, I can’t give them too much grief, because I’ve been there – I crashed a server during a launch.

It’s pretty funny… just a few days ago that I wrote about server crashes and product launches… and some of the people who left comments seemed to think I was either lying, or I was an idiot if I couldn’t keep a server up during a launch.

Well, Apple is certainly a company that has a lot more assets than my company has (duh!)… and guess what?

They couldn’t keep their servers up.

And, speaking of Apple… take a look here to see my breakdown of the iPhone 4 launch. I think you’ll find it interesting… and there’s something in there I’ve never really made public before.

P.S. I’m not an Apple consultant. No one in my company is consulting for Apple. But, that’s part of the reason why you need to watch my video about the launch of the iPhone 4. I’m sharing something that I’ve never shared in public.

Great video on the iPhone 4 launch. As a PLM watching the PLF 3 launch with great interest in seeing how you execute an actual launch, there’s one question that I just have to ask.

Was the iPhone video a last minute addition to the pre-launch content plan? Did it get inserted in front of the Blueprint which was supposed to be the third video release for the launch? Or are you really running that close to deadline before you finish the production of the next piece of pre-launch content?

Either way, it’s a great demonstration of the real world power of PLF. Even if you didn’t tell them how to do it, their launch proves that the PLF concept works in the large consumer marketing space and isn’t just a fluke that just works for internet guru products.

Can’t wait to see the rest of the content sequence.

Jeff,
As a PLM in mid-launch with a weight loss client, it never ceases to amaze me how these things take on a life of their own. Between gasps, changes, video do-overs, and general mayhem, these launches slip on their little golden wings and magically sail along.
Jeff’s formula is indestructible. Trust me on that. plf just crushes it (as long as you pick your clients according to The Gospel of Jon Walker).
My advice: Get started, get into a pre-launch and move the way your gut tells you. And gets LOTS of sleep.
If you want to have fun, make new friends, get great knowledge, and make money too, buy plf. Don’t even think twice about it.
More advice: Try it offline too. The competition won’t even know what hit them. Guaranteed.
All the best, always,
Jay

P S. If you have any doubts, trust me on this: plf will be taught in universities in the next couple years and Jeff will one day be in history books. This is important knowledge.

Jeff

You’re always delivering the goods.

I just wanted to share how much PLF and PLM has changed my life.

I almost didn’t look at the course because of the name “product launch”, and I was thinking “what did I have to launch…”.

Good thing my friend HIGHLY reccomended you and I soon learned this goes WELL beyond launching products, it’s a whole context to market everything you do.

The applications of your material are almost endless and I’ve generated man $10,000s from it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Can’t wait for PLF 3.0.

That plug and play model looks sick!

What is PLM??

Actually, I did think people had to be stupid to make those mistakes during the launch.

Now, I’m doing my first launch myself and damn….stuff goes wrong. But it’s still so much cooler than doing a regular job.

Keep it up, Jay Doubya! :)

Really enjoying watching your launch. I am about to post a blog about your blueprint on my blog purposeinc dot com, and would love to know where you would like me to send the traffic. Love the blueprint, totally encapsulating, and creates a wonderful mystery of the details! :)

I think Apple needs you on the board. There is an opening job called New Product Operation Manager and the job description described a new product launch and working with the core team.

Funny that as I read this from my iPad, it doesn’t support the flash technology to enable me to watch or see the stuff you posted about how Apple’s phone fiasco played out.

Boo to the technical frustrations. But YEAH that you share them to help me prepare for my own future frustrations.
