Today, August 30th 2011, is the 15 year anniversary of the start of my Internet business career.
That’s right… I actually started out in 1996. Sorta crazy.
And it’s hard to imagine more humble beginnings. The story is too long to recount here, but I started out of desperation – I needed a change in my life.
And I started with one single action… I sent out an email newsletter.
I sent that first newsletter to everyone I personally knew who had an email address. Back in 1996 email was still somewhat rare, so the newsletter only went out to 19 email addresses.
Of course, one of those addresses was my second email address and another was my wife’s email address… but I figure there…
So I just got back from a big adventure… I just spent 10 days rowing my raft down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.
(And yes, it was my raft… this was a “private” trip with no guides.)
Rowing my raft down the Colorado River in Grand Canyon
Those of you who have been down the Grand Canyon know that it’s a trip of a lifetime… and I’ve been lucky enough to do it six times now.
You see, rafting and kayaking whitewater rivers is a passion of mine – and I’ve paddled and rowed down all kinds of wildnerness rivers from Arizona to Alaska. But the Grand…
OK, this is without a doubt the craziest post I’ve made on this blog… because I’ve never seen anyone put a THREE HOUR all-content recording on their blog!
This is the deal – a few days ago my good friend Brendon Burchard (that photo below shows Brendon and I at this year’s Super Bowl) interviewed Andy Jenkins and myself on a teleseminar.
The call was all about information marketing – how to create and market your own information products… and it’s from three people who have “been there, done that” … and have sold millions of dollars of their information products. Enjoy!
This morning I made breakfast for my daughter before she went off to school. It wasn’t anything fancy… but it was a nice chance to interact with her for 15 minutes before she left for school.
It was also my last chance.
Today is her last day of high school. Her graduation is on Sunday. And in August she’ll be leaving home for college.
Mountain biking in Moab, UT with my daughter
My daughter started kindergarten thirteen years ago… and I did much the same thing with her back then – made her breakfast and got her out the door. Of course, getting her ready for school was a lot more hands-on back then, and…
Last Sunday I pulled off what I call the “Durango Double”… I went skiing in the morning, and then in the afternoon I drove down from the mountain, traded my skis for my mountain bike… and I got in my first mountain bike ride of the year.
It was a big day with lots of calories spent… it left me exhausted but elated. And it left me totally energized for a big week for my business. It also got me thinking…
There’s this phrase that gets thrown around a lot – “the Internet Lifestyle”…
I think the typical way it’s portrayed is you spend an hour or maybe two working on your business while you’re in a lounge chair at the beach. Then the cabana…
If you ever needed even more PROOF of just how powerful Internet Marketing was… well a few days ago Brendon Burchard’s new book – the Millionaire Messenger – premiered at #1 on Amazon.com and BN.com.

And in a few days, when the next New York Times bestseller list is announced, there’s a darn good chance it will be near the top of that list as well.
And Brendon has done this ENTIRELY with Internet Marketing. There was no book tour, no TV or radio… he’s not a famous author, and he’s not getting a big push from a fancy New York publisher.
He’s just using the Internet Marketing tactics that we’ve all been honing for the last 10 years. He used his list,…
I remember the first time someone ever bought something from me online. I jumped so high I think I almost punched a hole in the ceiling.
First off, I was amazed that someone would actually buy something from me. And equally amazing was the fact that the person was from Switzerland.

It was hard to fathom that someone from halfway around the world would buy something from me… that I was publishing out of my home in Colorado!
Fast forward 15 years… and I’ve now sold many millions of dollars of stuff online.
And unless you were hiding under a rock, you probably noticed that I released Product Launch Formula last week. As usual, it wasn’t on the market long – we…
I thought you might like a bit of a peak behind-the-curtain into a major product launch that’s happening right now…
As I type this Eben Pagan’s launch for his “Self Made Wealth” program is going to be closing down in a few hours.
And this is a launch that’s had a few twists and turns. It hasn’t been all beauty and grace.
As I’ve mentioned before on this blog, Eben is a good friend of mine and I have huge respect for him and his business training products. I’ve actually attended three different workshops he put on – that was a total of 12 very long days of listening to Eben teach.
And trust me, it takes an awful lot to get me to sit…
I’ve been full-time online entrepreneur since way back 1996, so I’ve seen a few things come down the road. I remember back in those first few years when someone learned that I had a web site… they always asked “can you actually make money doing that?”
Well, times have changed.
But one thing that hasn’t changed is HOW you actually make money. Basically, there’s a lot of different ways to skin a cat, but there are really only two primary ways to make money online…
I’ve used just about every revenue system under the sun since I started out. I’ve sold all kinds of things – from continuity to ebooks to home-study courses to online courses to membership sites…

OK, this might seem weird, but one of the things that often leads to colossal business mistakes is unrelenting optimism.
I mean, if you’re going to be an entrepreneur you pretty much need to be an optimist… you need to have the belief that you can create something out of nothing – because that’s what we all do pretty much every day. And above all else, you need to protect your confidence (and you need to avoid poisoning your brain).
But you have to be careful… because that optimism can get you in trouble.
And this ESPECIALLY true when you get a bunch of entrepreneurs together… say in a mastermind group or a team meeting.
Lots of times, when you get a group like…
