Summary

There was a moment in my business that changed everything – a turning point that took me from feeling isolated behind my computer screen to being surrounded by a community of like-minded entrepreneurs. It all started with one decision: stepping into a live event.

I’ll share the story of that first event, what made it such a game-changer, and how it taught me the real power of connection. You’ll get a glimpse of why building a network is so much more than just “meeting people” – it’s about finding inspiration, expanding what you believe is possible, and creating relationships that can shape the future of your business.

If you’ve ever felt stuck or wondered how to push past your limits, this is for you. Because sometimes, the most important step isn’t what you do – it’s who you surround yourself with.

The Start of Something Big

The day everything changed for me wasn’t some dramatic, movie-worthy moment. It was January 2000, and I was stepping into my first-ever online marketing conference.

I didn’t know it at the time, but that decision – to get on a plane, attend this event, and put myself out there – was about to reshape and grow my business – and my life.

The Double-Edged Sword of Online Business

One of the best things about online business is that you can start with nothing more than a laptop (or even just your phone). No fancy office, no team – just you and your ideas. It’s incredible what you can create from scratch.

But it’s also just you and your laptop. And that can get… lonely. It’s easy to stay stuck in your own head, spinning your wheels, second-guessing every decision. There’s no one to bounce ideas off, no one to challenge your thinking or push you forward. I know what that’s like.

That’s where live events come in – and that’s where everything changed for me.

Stepping Into the Room That Changed Everything

Walking into that conference in 2000, I didn’t know what to expect. But as soon as I entered, I felt it: these were my people. People who got it. People who understood the challenges I was facing because they were facing them too. People who were excited about the same things I was excited about.

And it wasn’t just the sense of community. I was surrounded by people who were further ahead than me – people who had built bigger businesses and achieved more than I’d thought was possible.

I started seeing what was possible for myself.

I wasn’t just meeting peers – I was building a network. And to this day, that network has become one of the most valuable assets in my business.

The Ripple Effect of One Decision

When I got home from that conference, I was on fire. I took what I learned, applied it, and launched my next product. That launch brought in $100,000 – nearly three times my previous record of $35,000.

But it wasn’t just the strategies I learned at that event. It was the belief. I’d seen firsthand what was possible. I’d met people who were doing it. That confidence – the understanding that this could be my reality – was a game-changer.

Why Live Events Are Worth It

Since that first conference, live events have become a cornerstone of my success. I’ve attended dozens of workshops, masterminds, and conferences, and I’ve hosted nearly 100 of my own, including PLF Live, which has become the longest-running launch workshop in the industry.

At events like PLF Live, you don’t just learn – you do. You leave with a clear plan you can implement right away.

The Evolution of PLF Live

Speaking of PLF Live, it’s been incredible to watch it grow over the years. When I hosted the first PLF Live in 2007, it was just the beginning. By 2010, I’d refined the formula, and since then, it’s become the longest-running, continually updated workshop in the industry.

The premise is simple: you walk in with an idea for a product, service, or business you want to launch, and in three days, you walk out with a complete launch plan. You’ll:

  • Develop an offer your audience can’t wait to buy.
  • Map out your Prelaunch content to build excitement.
  • Nail down your Open Cart strategy for maximum results.

Over the years, the launches that have come out of PLF Live have been nothing short of legendary.

Adapting to a New Era

In 2020, like everyone else, we had to pivot. PLF Live went virtual. I won’t lie – nothing beats the energy of an in-person event, and I missed it. But the shift to virtual brought a silver lining: accessibility. No more plane tickets, no more hotel rooms. You could attend from the comfort of your own home, and that opened the doors to so many more people.

And even though I love in-person events because of the spontaneous conversations they create, you can still make great connections and take major business leaps during and after a virtual event.

Looking back, that first conference taught me how to build relationships. That’s the real power of live events – they connect you with people who inspire you, challenge you, and help you grow your business.

So, if you’re feeling stuck or isolated, here’s my advice: find your tribe. Invest in live events. Build a network that will elevate you and your business. It’s the best decision you’ll ever make.
