I had the pleasure of sitting down with Elliot Connie, a true star in the PLF world and a member of my top-tier mastermind group. Elliot’s journey from being a well-respected psychotherapist to a mainstream figure about to launch a network TV show is nothing short of remarkable.
Elliot started out as a psychotherapist with a thriving practice, helping people face life’s toughest challenges. But his impact didn’t stop there. He’s since grown into a mentor and coach for other psychotherapists, helping them become better at what they do.
Along the way, he’s written several books and taken to the stage at numerous events to share his message, always focused on helping people who need it most.
In our conversation, we explored how shifting his focus from making money to making an impact led to a level of success he hadn’t imagined.
Starting With a Desire to Help
Elliot’s journey began with a simple yet profound goal…to help people. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his clients.
However, he quickly realized that his reach was limited to those who could physically come to his office in Keller, Texas.
He was meeting with clients one-on-one, and while that was rewarding, it also meant he could only help a small number of people at a time.
While successful, Elliot wasn’t satisfied with just helping those within his immediate vicinity or those who bought his books. This realization sparked a desire to figure out how to scale and expand his impact. This led him to more writing, and speaking at events, both of which eventually helped him reach wider audiences.
He wanted to reach people who were in pain, regardless of their location or circumstances. This drive to serve others pushed him to continually expand his audience, not with the goal of making more money, but to make a greater impact.
Impact Over Income
One of the most powerful lessons Elliot shared was the shift from focusing on money to focusing on impact.
For Elliot, it became clear that running a business wasn’t just about financial gain but more about the lives he could touch and the difference he could make. Money, he discovered, was simply a byproduct of serving others well.
Accepting Your True Calling
Elliot emphasized the importance of accepting your calling with courage. Too often, we get distracted by financial targets, conversion rates, and sales metrics. But Elliot’s story is a testament to the idea that when you focus on service… providing real value to those who need it – the money follows naturally.
It’s about meeting people’s needs, speaking to their hearts, and being there for them during their toughest times.
By consistently showing up & providing real value, Elliot discovered that new opportunities began to present themselves, including his new TV show focused on mental health – a project that perfectly aligns with his mission.
This service-oriented approach and growth mindset creates deeper connections and a more meaningful impact, in addition to a wider audience.
In The End
Elliot’s story is a powerful reminder that true success comes not from chasing money, but from embracing a mindset of service. By focusing on impact and meeting the needs of others, Elliot has built a career that is both fulfilling and successful. It’s a lesson for all of us: when we run our businesses from the heart and with love, the results will follow.
